PM Krivokapić meets with newly appointed Ambassador of France
Prime Minister of Montenegro Zdravko Krivokapić hosted the newly appointed Ambassador of the French Republic to Montenegro, H.E. Christian Thimonier.
PM Krivokapić extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Thimonier and congratulated him on his appointment. Krivokapić pointed out that EU membership is Montenegro's strategic goal. He expressed gratitude to France for the continuous support it provides to our country in the field of European integration and expressed the expectation that in the future French diplomacy will continue to recognize and appreciate our efforts in achieving international and European standards and best practices.
Krivokapić said that the fight against corruption and organized crime is one of the Government's key goals, adding that it is necessary to implement reforms in the area of the rule of law.
The meeting also discussed changes in prosecutorial laws. The French Ambassador said that it was necessary to implement all changes in compliance with legal formulas and the legal spirit.
Ambassador Thimonier said that he wanted to convey messages of friendship and encouragement to the new government, especially in terms of topics that are important for both France and Montenegro, and that is, above all, the fight against corruption. Furthermore, he said that Montenegro could count on the help of France.
We want to help you with everything that can contribute to uniting Montenegro in terms of European values, said the Ambassador.
Prime Minister Krivokapić emphasised that a major problem for Montenegro, as well as for the whole world, is the COVID-19 pandemic, and that he hopes that immunization of the population will improve the complex epidemiological situation. Krivokapić stated that it is in the interest of Montenegro to strengthen economic cooperation with France, as well as to have a greater presence of French investors.
The two officials agreed that cooperation in the field of culture and education should be improved as well.
