PM Krivokapić participates in Biden’s Global COVID-19 Summit
Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić, at the invitation of the US President Joe Biden, participated in the Global COVID-19 Summit on the margins of the UN General Assembly. The Summit was an opportunity to reaffirm global efforts and readiness to provide financial, expert and technical support to end the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a video message, Prime Minister Krivokapić, on behalf of the Government of Montenegro, thanked President Biden for the timely, global initiative of the United States aimed at ending the pandemic.
The COVID-19 pandemic put our healthcare systems, supply chains of medical equipment and medicines, and ultimately our democracies, under an exceptional strain. At the same time, it reaffirmed the importance of interstate solidarity, regional cooperation and alliances to which we belong in facing global challenges.
In the fight against the economic and healthcare consequences of a pandemic, we need two-way streets. Montenegro understood this in time, which is why it not only received, but also sent aid to other countries.
I am pleased to say that at the national level, we are taking steps from all three segments that are the topic of the Summit, through vaccination of population, improving the quality of life and greater investment in healthcare infrastructure. At the moment, 41.7% of adult citizens in Montenegro have been vaccinated. In that regards, I am pleased to confirm that, at the national level, we will be able to follow what is the global goal of this Summit – 70% of the vaccinated world population by September 2022.
I assure you that Montenegro, in accordance with its capabilities, will continue to be a reliable partner in synergetic action in the implementation of the conclusions of the Summit, said Prime Minister Krivokapić.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and US Vice President Kamala Harris also participated in the Summit.
