Political consultations held between Montenegro and the Republic of Austria
Political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro and the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria were held on March 19, 2025, in Podgorica.
The consultations were led by State Secretary, Ambassador Periša Kastratović on the Montenegrin side, and Secretary General Nikolas Marschik on the Austrian side.
Austria's strong support for Montenegro's continued European path was reiterated, both through political and expert support in key areas of the reform agenda. It was noted at the meeting that Montenegro is a leader in European integration, with the message that Austria eagerly awaits our country in the EU.
The interlocutors assessed that the accession of another country to the Union would confirm the commitment to the enlargement policy and give a strong incentive to other candidate countries for new successes in the integration process.
It was noted that the diplomatic initiatives launched by Austria, as a good connoisseur of the situation in the Western Balkans, in recent years, strongly contribute to the stability and European integration of the region.
In the conversation, readiness was expressed for further intensification of economic cooperation, with the assessment that Austrian companies operating in Montenegro can serve as an example of successful business, and that the two sides will work together to attract new investments in areas of mutual interest, such as infrastructure, energy and tourism.
During the consultations, opinions were also exchanged on current topics within the EU, as well as other regional and global issues.
