Prime Minister Krivokapić meets with the British Ambassador
Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić met today with the British Ambassador to Montenegro, H.E. Karen Maddocks. The reason for the meeting was the Draft Law on Ratification of the Agreement on Trade, Partnership and Cooperation between Montenegro and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which was adopted at yesterday’s Cabinet session. Prime Minister Krivokapić said that he expected the Agreement to be ratified in the Parliament of Montenegro.
The Prime Minister pointed out that it is in Montenegro's interest to attract British investors to invest in our country, emphasising that Montenegro has the greatest potential in energy. Krivokapić also said that the Government of Montenegro wants to revive the Port of Bar, by restoring its reputation.
Krivokapić said that cooperation in the field of information technology should be improved, and the Government's idea is that a certain number of our IT experts continue their training in the United Kingdom.
The Prime Minister also informed the British Ambassador about the results achieved by the Government of Montenegro in the first 100 days of work.
PM Krivokapić said that the biggest challenge facing the Government is the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, which is why it was decided at yesterday's Cabinet session that he would be the president of the Council for the Fight against Coronavirus. The Prime Minister said that he hoped that the mass immunization of the population would help to get out of this difficult situation that has befallen the whole world. He said that the Government's priority are reforms in the area of the rule of law.
The British Ambassador congratulated the Government on the speed it has shown in the process of starting vaccination since the beginning of its mandate, saying that the situation in the United Kingdom is improving thanks to the immunization of the population. Ambassador Maddocks pointed out that she was glad that the AstraZeneca vaccine would be part of the Montenegrin vaccination programme.
Furthermore, the Ambassador said that the United Kingdom supports Montenegro in the fight against organized crime and corruption and that it is ready to provide help in that area. Maddocks also noted that a number of British companies are interested in investing in Montenegro.
The meeting also discussed the prosecutorial laws and climate change.
