Spajić: The only true winner of the Census is a European, civic Montenegro
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić emphasised today that the only true winner of the recently conducted Census of Population, Households, and Dwellings, carried out to the highest standards, is a European, civic Montenegro—a country that is big enough for all its citizens.
Speaking on the occasion of the publication of the census results, the Prime Minister noted that the census year marks a significant reference point in the history of a state and its society. He stressed that today's announcement goes beyond mere statistics, as it sets the framework for policymaking and directs Montenegro’s future development.
Spajić expressed gratitude to all who participated in the census process—enumerators, their coordinators, and citizens who welcomed them into their homes. He extended special thanks to the representatives of parliamentary parties and minority councils for their constructive approach and commitment to finding a mutually acceptable solution, which, he stated, strengthened trust in the process.
From this perspective, the Census was the first challenge for the 44th Government, but also our first success. Now, based on the collected data, we will work on new policies that will improve the quality of life for our citizens and build our European future, the Prime Minister underscored.
In a video address, Spajić also highlighted a concerning trend: despite the younger foreign population that has moved to Montenegro, the average age of citizens has risen to 39.7 years. This, he pointed out, is an alarming statistic.
In the coming months, detailed analyses of demographic, infrastructural, and local governance policies will be reviewed and adopted, the Prime Minister added.
