The thirteenth meeting of the Subcommittee on Justice, Freedom, and Security between representatives of Montenegro and the European Commission will take place on 13 and 14 March 2024 in Podgorica, in a hybrid format.

The meeting will be held at the Old Government Building, starting at 9:00 a.m.

Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević and Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro Oana Cristina Popa will open the meeting.

During the two-day meeting, progress made by Montenegro in strengthening the rule of law, a key area in the accession negotiations, will be presented.

The Montenegrin side will present the results achieved since the previous Subcommittee meeting held in March 2023, particularly in terms of the level of alignment of legislative and institutional frameworks with EU standards in the field of the rule of law.

Special attention during the meeting will be given to discussing concrete results in combating corruption and organised crime, fighting money laundering, and combating human trafficking. Additionally, activities undertaken in the areas of judiciary and fundamental rights, as well as in other areas relevant to Chapters 23 and 24, will be presented.

Media representatives are invited to attend the opening statements of Gorčević and Popa, and after the meeting, a press release will be issued.
