Diplomatic relations
Bilateral relations between Montenegro and Hungary are friendly, without open issues, on a constant rise when it comes to economic cooperation, characterized by common interests and cooperation through NATO membership. Numerous mutual visits at the highest and highest level have additionally encouraged the overall cooperation between Montenegro and Hungary. Hungary strongly, bilaterally and multilaterally, advocates and promotes the necessity of Montenegro's membership in the European Union even before 2025, which is given as a perspective in the European Commission Strategy for the Western Balkans.
Hungary officially recognized Montenegro on June 12, 2006. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on June 14, 2006.

Economic indicators
Trade in 2020 between Montenegro and Hungary amounted to EUR 44,39 million (exports: 22,51 million euros; imports: 21,88 million euros). In 2019 trade amounted to 69,07 million euros (exports: 44,96 million euros; imports: 24,11 million euros), while in 2018 amounted to 65,4 million euros (exports: 46,14 million euros; imports: 19.26 million euros).
Foreign direct investments from Hungary in 2020, according to the Central Bank of Montenegro, amounted to 7,62 million euros. In 2019 FDI amounted to 54,42 million euros, while in 2018 amounted to 65,4 million euros.
In 2020, 1,251 tourists from Hungary visited Montenegro, with 3.854 overnight stays. In 2019, there were 32.860 tourists with 164,509 overnight stays. In 2018, there were 34.032 Hungarian tourists with 168.910 overnight stays.
