Visa regime

Citizens of Montenegro, holders of ordinary passports, need a visa to enter Iran. The Iranian Embassy in Belgrade is in charge.

Diplomatic relations

Iran recognized Montenegro on July 7th 2006. Diplomatic relations between Montenegro and Iran were established on July 28th 2006.

The credentials of the newly appointed and authorized Ambassador of Montenegro to the Islamic Republic of Iran, on a non-resident basis based in Ankara, Periša Kastratović, are expected to be handed over.

The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Montenegro, on a non-resident basis based in Belgrade, Rashid Hassan Pur Bai, took office on February 2nd 2021.

Political contacts

Political contacts between the two countries are most represented in the part of parliamentary cooperation. The visit of the members of the Friendship Group of the Parliament of Montenegro to Tehran, at the invitation of the Iranian side, was realized from February 24-28. 2018. The Iranian delegation, led by the President of the Iranian Friendship Group, Parvaneh Salahshuri, visited Montenegro on November 2nd 2017.

Contacts between the two countries at the political level are also held through occasional meetings on the sidelines of international conferences and gatherings.

Economic cooperation

The total trade between Montenegro and Iran in the period from January to November 2021 amounted to € 1,242,078 (of which imports amounted to € 1,236,438 and exports to € 5,640).

In previous years, direct investments from Iran were not recorded.

There are no statistics on tourists from Iran.
