Visa regime
Citizens of Montenegro do not need a visa to enter the Republic of Korea for tourist stays of up to 30 days.
At least 72 hours before the planned trip, it is necessary to apply for k-ETA approval through the official website (www.k-eta.go.kr). This applies to tourist visit. A fee that does not include additional costs is $10 per application.
Excluded from this authorization are passengers crossing the territory of Korea without detention, registered foreigners and persons holding visas, holders of diplomatic/official passports, persons under the age of 17 and older than 65 years.
Montenegrin citizens who travel to Korea for other reasons or who would stay longer than 30 days are instructed to contact the Embassy of Korea in Belgrade.
Bilateral Relations/Diplomatic Relations
Montenegro and the Republic of Korea are developing traditionally friendly and open cooperation.
On June 21, 2006, the Government of the Republic of Korea recognized the independence of Montenegro. Diplomatic relations were established on September 4, 2006.
Ambassador of the Republic of Korea on a non-resident basis (based in Belgrade) Choe Hyoung-chan performed this duty in period from February 2019 to November 2021.
The Embassy of Montenegro in Beijing also covers the Republic of Korea.
On January 26, 2015, Predrag Pavličić was issued an exequatur in the capacity of Honorary Consul of the Republic of Korea in Montenegro, with its seat in Podgorica and with a consular area on the entire territory of Montenegro.
Political Contacts
In May 2012, the Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Hong Jae Hyong paid his first official visit to Montenegro. On that occasion, he had a meeting with the President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Ranko Krivokapić
Economic Cooperation / International Trade
Montenegro and the Republic of Korea are increasingly focusing on cooperation on bilateral economic grounds.
The agreement on economic cooperation between Montenegro and the Republic of Korea was signed on November 5, 2021, which gave the cooperation a new quality, ie. concrete, adequate and efficient framework for deepening and concretization in numerous areas. The growth in the number of South Korean tourists and the growth of trade in the period immediately before the outbreak of the pandemic are also encouraging data in this context.
A Memorandum of Understanding between KOIMA (Korean Importers Association) and the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro was signed in June 2012.
The total trade between Montenegro and South Korea in 2021 amounted to 9.7 million. euros, and applied only to imports. Exports were not recorded in this period. According to ‘’Monstat’’, no arrivals of tourists from South Korea were recorded.
According to the Central Bank of Montenegro, no investments from South Korea were recorded.
Overview of other information
The development aid that the Republic of Korea continuously provides to Montenegro is significant, including donations to the MFA, and the aid was not lacking even in the most difficult moments of the pandemic - the donation of protective masks and PCR tests in the amount of 200 thousand dollars.
In order to bring its country, culture and traditions closer to Montenegrin citizens, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea marked the 15th anniversary of our diplomatic relations in early September 2021, by presenting traditional South Korean music and dance at the Montenegrin National Theater;
The Republic of Korea provides scholarships for master's and doctoral studies for students from Montenegro.
