Diplomatic Relations Overview

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania officially recognized Montenegro on the 21st of December 2009, and the diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on the same day.

The President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović granted agrément to the newly appointed Ambassador of Mauritania to Montenegro (with residence in Rome) Mrs. Zeineb Ely Salem on the 11th of February 2021.

Overall exchange of goods and services between our two countries is at the symbolic level. In 2021 (January – October) it amounted to mere €61,050 (out of which the exports were €27,377, and the imports were €33,673); In 2020, mere €7,027 of imports were recorded). Predominantly fish is imported from Mauritania.

Montenegro and Mauritania have not, so far, signed any bilateral agreement.
