Visas
A visa is required for Montenegrin citizens in order to be able to enter and stay in the South African Republic. Issuing of visas is under the jurisdiction of the Embassy of South African Republic in Athens.
Diplomatic Relations Overview
The Republic of South Africa officially recognized Montenegro on the 6th of July 2006, and the diplomatic relations were established on the 11th of October 2006. Ivan Leković presented his credentials to the President of South Africa H.E. Cyril Rapamhosa on the 15th of May 2019, thus assuming the office of the non-residential Ambassador of Montenegro to South Africa.
Vidoje Čavor is the Honorary Consul of Montenegro in the RSA (with residence in Durban). The Consulate, with the jurisdiction over the entire territory of the receiving state, was officialy opened on the 30th of October 2019.
H.E. Mrs. Beryl Rose Sisulu, presented her credentials to the President of Montenegro H.E. Mr. Milo Đukanović on the 27th of April 2021.
Economic Cooperation / International Trade
Economic cooperation between Montenegro and South Africa is mostly embodied in bilateral trade, while the substantive forms of cooperation haven't so far been recorded. South Africa has expressed interest in establishing the cooperation between the Chambers of Commerce of the two countries.
Overall exchange of goods and services in 2021 (January – October) amounted to €2,013,365 (out of which the exports were €4,256, and the imports were €2,009,109); overall exchange of goods and services in 2020 amounted to €1,558,938 (out of which the exports were €11,271, and the imports were €1,547,667).
Direct investments (FDI) from South Africa in 2016 amounted to €15,012,340. In 2018, the FDI totaled €6,113,180€, while in 2019 they were €624,790.
