Armenia*

Holders of travel documents with a valid Schengen visa, a valid visa from the United States, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or the Republic of Ireland, as well as residence permits from those countries, may enter and stay in, or transit through, the territory of Montenegro for up to 30 days, but no longer than the expiration of their visa if the validity period is shorter than 30 days.

Visa regime

Nationals of Armenia are required to obtain a visa to enter Montenegro.

Visas may be obtained from diplomatic and consular posts of Montenegro. If you are unable to reach a diplomatic or consular post of Montenegro, you may apply for a visa at the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Yerevan. 

NOTE: Nationals of the Republic of Armenia, from May 1 to October 31, 2024, may enter, pass through the territory and stay in Montenegro up to 30 days, with a valid travel document, without a visa.

Diplomatic relations

On 14 June 2006, the Republic of Armenia recognized the independence of Montenegro.

On November 7, 2006, Montenegro and the Republic of Armenia established diplomatic relations.

Montenegro and Armenia maintain traditionally friendly relations. There is a potential and mutual interest in terms of development of stronger trade and economic relations, as well as enchancing the contractual basis of the cooperation in  fields of culture, education, science and tourism.

Diplomatic representation of Montenegro to the Republic of Armenia takes place through the Embassy of Montenegro in Kyiv.

On November 1, 2019, the non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Montenegro, with the seat in Prague, H.E. Ashot Hovakimian, assumed office.

The first political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia were held on May 12, 2022 in Podgorica during which two sides signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between two Ministries, which represents the foundation for further more dynamic cooperation. 

Official visits

May 26-27, 2022 - the President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović paid an official visit to the Republic of Armenia. During this visit, President Djukanovic had meetings with the President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan, as well as with the President of the Parliament Alen Simonyan and the Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.  

January 20, 2016 - the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Edward Nalbandian, paid his first official visit to Montenegro and met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Igor Lukšić and the President of the Parliament Ranko Krivokapić.

May 6-7, 2013 - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Montenegro Igor Lukšić paid a first official visit to the Republic of Armenia and on that occasion met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian, Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and President of the National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan.

Encounters on the margins

November 19, 2022 - Prime Minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazović met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia within the framework of 43rd Ministerial Conference of the International Organization of Francophonie in Djerba, Tunisia.

November 2, 2021 - President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović met with the President of the Republic of Armenia Armen Sarkissian, within the framework of UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow.

December 6, 2018 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Srđan Darmanović met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, within the framework of the 25th OSCE Ministerial Council in Milan.

Economic cooperation

In 2022, imports from the Republic of Armenia were recorded in the amount of 42 410 euros, while exports were amounted 1010 euros.

The direct investments from the Republic of Armenia in 2022 were amounted to 2,005 millions euros.
