Malaysia*

Holders of travel documents with a valid Schengen visa, a valid visa from the United States, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or the Republic of Ireland, as well as residence permits from those countries, may enter and stay in, or transit through, the territory of Montenegro for up to 30 days, but no longer than the expiration of their visa if the validity period is shorter than 30 days.

Visa regime

Nationals of Malaysia may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro up to 90 days, with a valid travel document, without a visa.

Diplomatic Relations

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Montenegro and Malaysia have maintained friendly relations.

Malaysia recognized the independence of Montenegro on July 25, 2006, and on August 17, 2006 diplomatic relations were established between the two countries.

On September 26, 2017, Zakri bin Jaafar, the non-resident Ambassador of Malaysia to Montenegro (based in Sarajevo), presented his credentials to the President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanović.

Political Contacts

No high-level and the highest level visits have taken place, so far.

Meetings at the margins

President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović met with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib bin Abdul Razak on the sidelines of the 35th UNESCO General Conference on October 6, 2009.

Economic Cooperation / International Trade

During 2020, the foreign trade exchange between Montenegro and Malaysia amounted to about 5 million € (of which imports amounted to € 2.6 million and exports to € 2.4 million). Foreign direct investment from Malaysia was not recorded in 2020.

According to "Monstat", no tourists from Malaysia were registered in Montenegro during 2020.
