Mauritania*

Holders of travel documents with a valid Schengen visa, a valid visa from the United States, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or the Republic of Ireland, as well as residence permits from those countries, may enter and stay in, or transit through, the territory of Montenegro for up to 30 days, but no longer than the expiration of their visa if the validity period is shorter than 30 days.

Visa regime

Nationals of Mauriatnia the Republic of Congo are required to obtain a visa to enter Montenegro.

Visas may be obtained from diplomatic and consular posts of Montenegro. If you are unable to reach a diplomatic or consular post of Montenegro, you may apply for a visa at the nearest diplomatic or consular post of the Republic of Serbia.

Diplomatic Relations

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania officially recognized Montenegro on the 21st of December 2009, and the diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on the same day.

Since 2018, the Ambassador of Mauritania in Italy, with residence in Rome, is Sidi Mohamed Hamed. Mr. Hamed has been given agrément, and the presentation of his credentials is to take place in the mere future.

No ambassadors of Montenegro have, so far, been accredited to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

Economic Cooperation / International Trade

Overall exchange of goods and services between Montengro and this country is at a symbolic level - while mostly fish is imported from Mauritania. Mauritania is, otherwise, known to be one of the world's greatest producers / exporters of fish, and it is also noteworthy that this country has, for decades, been fostering the formal and fruitful trading cooperation with the EU, in this respect.

Miscellaneous

Montenegro and Mauritania have not, so far, signed any bilateral agreement.

In March of 2015, H.E. Gojko Čelebić, otherwise the non-residential Ambassador of Montenegro to Egypt (from Podgorica), took office of the Ambassador of Montenegro to the Arab League (Arab League, AL, is the international organization comprised of 22 member-states. It was formed in 1946 in Cairo, and Mauritaniais one of it's members. Arab League is, besides African Union, AU, cosidered to be the most influential multilateral subject in the aforementioned part of the world). Montenegro has the status of a guest-state status in the AL.

With regard to the cooperation of Mauritania with NATO, it is noteworthy that this state is a member of the Mediterraenan Dialogue – the forum whose purpose is in cooperation between NATO, on one side and, besides Mauritania, six more states, on the other side. The Mediterranean Dialogue was first launched in 1994, "to create good relations and better mutual understanding and confidence throughout the region, promoting regional security and stability and explaining NATO's policies and goals."
