Moldova*

Holders of travel documents with a valid Schengen visa, a valid visa from the United States, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or the Republic of Ireland, as well as residence permits from those countries, may enter and stay in, or transit through, the territory of Montenegro for up to 30 days, but no longer than the expiration of their visa if the validity period is shorter than 30 days.

Visa regime

Nationals of Moldova may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro up to 90 days, with a valid travel document, without a visa.

Diplomatic relations

On 21 June 2006 Moldova recognized the independence of Montenegro. The two countries established diplomatic relations on 12 March 2007.

Relations between Montenegro and Moldova are friendly, but certainly there are numerous possibilities for their further improvement through strengthening the political dialogue.

The two countries are not resident accredited, so diplomatic communication is carried out on a non-resident basis, through the embassies of the two countries accredited in Bucharest, Romania.

Official visits

4 April 2017 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Srdjan Darmanović paid an official visit to the Republic of Moldova. On that occasion he met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Galbur and Prime Minister Pavel Filip.

27-28 October 2008 - President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović paid an official visit to the Republic of Moldova during which he met with the President of the State Vladimir Voronin, Prime Minister Zinaid Greceani and Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu.

25 June 2008 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Milan Roćen paid an official visit to the Republic of Moldova during which he met with the President of the Republic of Moldova Vladimir Voronin, Prime Minister Zinaida Greceani, Parliament Speaker Marian Lupu and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration Andrei Stratan.

Encounters on the margins

February 19, 2023 - President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović met with the President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

June 18, 2021 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Đordje Radulović met with the interim Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Aureliu Ciocoi, on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum in Antalya.

October 24, 2017 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Srdjan Darmanović, met with Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova Andrei Galbur, on the sidelines of the annual OSCE Mediterranean Conference in Palermo.

June 20, 2014 - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Lukšić met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova Natalia German, on the sidelines of the SEECP Ministerial Conference in Bucharest.

July 30, 2011 - President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović met with acting President of the Republic of Moldova Marian Lupu, on the sidelines of the SEECP Summit, in Sveti Stefan.

Economic cooperation

During 2022, trade exchange was realised in the amount of 461,28 thousand euros, and it related to imports from the Republic of Moldova. Foreign direct investments from this country, in the past year, amounted to 1,138 thousand euros.
