Diplomatic relations

Norway officially recognized Montenegro's independence on June 16th 2006, and diplomatic relations were established on June 21st 2006.

Political relations between Montenegro and Norway are friendly and based on the principles of openness and cooperation in many areas. Cooperation between the two countries has been further strengthened by cooperation within NATO.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Montenegro to the Kingdom of Norway, based in Podgorica, is Mirsad Bibović (assumed office on December 12th 2019).

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Norway to Montenegro, based in Belgrade, is Jorn Eugen Gjelstad (took office on December 10th 2019).

Official visits

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway Borge Brende paid an official visit to Montenegro from July 4th-5th 2016.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Montenegro Igor Lukšić paid a working visit to Norway from March 7th-8th 2013.

President of Parliament of the Kingdom of Norway Thorbjorn Jagland paid an official visit to Montenegro on May 12th 2009.

President of Parliament of Montenegro Ranko Krivokapić paid an official visit Norway from December 1st-2nd 2008.

President of Parliament of the Kingdom of Norway Jorgen Kosmo visited Montenegro on March 8th 2005.
