VISA REGIME
Nationals of Turkey may enter, pass through the territory of and stay in Montenegro up to 90 days, with a valid travel document, without a visa.
Diplomatic relations
Montenegro and the Republic of Turkey maintain traditionally friendly relations, with mutually expressed readiness for continuous development of overall bilateral cooperation.
The Republic of Turkey recognized the independence of Montenegro on 12 June 2006. Montenegro and the Republic of Turkey established diplomatic relations on 3 July 2006.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Montenegro to the Republic of Turkey, resident in Ankara, is Periša Kastratović (assumed office on 20 September 2019).
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Montenegro, resident in Podgorica, is Songul Ozan (assumed office on 8 February 2019).
On 21 March 2019, the Government of Montenegro passed the Decision on the opening of the Consulate General in Istanbul, which formally began operating at the end of 2019.
Official Visits
23 Decembar 2021 - Parliament Speaker of the Republic of Turkey Mustafa Şentop paid an official visit to Montenegro, during which he met with President of the Parliament of Montenegro Aleksa Bečić, President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović and Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić.
20-23. September 2021 - Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović paid an official visit to the Republic of Turkey where he met with Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu. During the three-day visit, he also met with: Vice President of the Republic of Turkey Fuat Oktay, Parliament Speaker Mustafa Şentop, Minister of Youth and Sports Mehmet Kasapoğlu, as well as with the Chairman of DEIK's Turkey-Montenegro Economic Council Naser Alim.
28 August 2021 - President of the Republic of Turkey paid his first official visit to Montenegro, during which he met with President Milo Đukanović, Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić and Parliament Speaker Aleksa Bečić.
20 February 2020 - President of the Parliament of Montenegro Ivan Brajović paid an official visit to the Republic of Turkey and met with the Parliament Speaker Mustafa Şentop, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlüt Cavuşoğlu, as well as with the President of the Friendship Group Erol Kavuncu. During the visit, President of the Parliament Ivan Brajović opened the National Library in Turkey, part of the presidential complex, together with Turkish President, Mr Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
10 February 2020 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlüt Cavuşoğlu paid an official visit to Podgorica and met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović, President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović, Prime Minister Duško Marković and Parliament Speaker Ivan Brajović.
10 September 2019 - Minister of Foreign Affairs Srdjan Darmanovic paid an official visit to the Republic of Turkey and met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlüt Cavuşoğlu, Parliament Speaker Mustafa Şentop and Deputy President Fuat Oktay.
The Montenegrin delegation at the inauguration ceremony of the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which was held on 9 July 2018. was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Co-Chair of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation Mr. Milutin Simović.
9 May 2017 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Mevlüt Cavuşoğlu paid an official visit to Montenegro and met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović, President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović, Parliament Speaker Ivan Brajović, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Milutin Simović.
Economic cooperation
The total amount of FDI from January to October 2021 was 23,566.08 EUR. During the mentioned period, the value of import was 90,528,495 EUR and the value of export was 16,409,484 EUR.
The total amount of trade exchange from January to December 2020 was 121.909.770 million EUR, while in 2019 amounted to 150.1 million euros.
Turkey is 10th largest investor in 2019 in Montenegro, with investments of 25.9 million EUR.
During the period from January to October 2021, 19 187 tourists from Turkey visited Montenegro in individual and collective accommodation (35,365 overnight stays). In 2020, 12.404 tourists from Turkey visited Montenegro in individual and collective accommodation with registrated 56,042 overnight stays (ie 75.74% less than in 2019, in which were realized 19,297 overnight stays).
