Montenegro and Cyprus have friendly relations. Cyprus provides strong support to Montenegro on its path to full EU membership.

Diplomatic relations

Cyprus officially recognized Montenegro on 16 June 2006. Diplomatic relations were established on 12 March 2007.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Montenegro to the Republic of Cyprus, based in Athens, is Ana Vukadinović (assumed this duty on February 6, 2020).

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cyprus to Montenegro, based in Belgrade, is Konstantinos Eliades (assumed this duty on June 24, 2016).

Montenegro has an honorary consul in Cyprus, Christos Mavrellis, based in Limassol (assumed this duty on 31 January 2008).

Bilateral meetings

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Igor Lukšić paid an official visit to the Republic of Cyprus on 19-20 March 2015.

The President of the Parliament of Montenegro Ivan Brajović had a bilateral meeting with the President of the Parliament of Cyprus Demetris Siluris, on the sidelines of the XI Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of Small States, March 22, 2017.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulidis visited Montenegro, 24-25. February 2014.

Economic indicators

Trade in 2020 between Montenegro and Cyprus amounted to EUR 425 thousand (exports: 146 thousand euros; imports: 279 thousand euros). In 2019, trade between Montenegro and Cyprus amounted to 1,1 million euros, while in 2018 trade amounted to 2,41 million euros.

Foreign direct investment from Cyprus in 2020 amounted to 5,55 million euros, in 2019 amounted to 9,91 million euros, while in 2018 they amounted to 26,9 million euros.

In 2020, 134 tourists from Cyprus visited Montenegro, with 400 overnight stays. In 2019, there were 1.162 tourists with 5.390 overnight stays. In 2018, there were 805 tourists with 1.689 overnight stays.
