Montenegro and the Republic of India are linked by traditionally friendly relations, from the period of the former SFRY.

Diplomatic Relations

The Republic of India officially recognized Montenegro on August 2, 2006, when diplomatic relations were established between the two countries.

The Ambassador of Montenegro to the Republic of India, on a non-resident basis (based in Strasbourg), Zoran Janković, took office on March 13, 2019.

The newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of India to Montenegro, Jaidip Mazumdar (based in Vienna), presented his credentials to the President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, on February 8, 2021.

Janis Darbari is the Honorary Consul of Montenegro in the Republic of India. The Honorary Consulate of Montenegro in the Republic of India was opened on January 31, 2008.

Political Contacts

Indian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs V. Kumar Singh was in Podgorica on September 3, 2014, when he met with President Filip Vujanović, Prime Minister Milo Đukanović and Deputy Prime Minister / Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Igor Lukšić.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Milan Roćen was in India from 9 to 12 April 2012, during which he met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of India S. M. Krishna.

The Minister of Finance of Montenegro, Milorad Katnić, was in India in the period from February 8 to 15, 2011. In New Delhi, on that occasion, he met with the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of India, Nam Meena.

Economic Cooperation / International Trade

In 2020, trade between Montenegro and the Republic of India amounted to  6.115.871 €  (of which imports amounted to 6.115.841 €  and exports to  30 €). In the period January - December 2019, trade between Montenegro and the Republic of India amounted to 20.640.435 € (of which imports amounted to 20.572.077 €  and exports to  68.358 €). In 2018, trade between Montenegro and the Republic of India amounted to  13.905.285 € (of which imports amounted to 13.904.439 €  and exports to  846 €). In 2017, trade amounted to  10.765.491 €  (of which exports accounted for  465 €, while imports amounted to € 10.765.026).

FDI: In 2018, 868.000 € was invested from the Republic of India in Montenegro.

Miscellaneous

Within the program of technical and economic cooperation ITEC, which is implemented by the Government of India, courses from various fields are organized, in which Montenegrin civil servants had the opportunity to participate. Montenegrin diplomats also regularly attend courses for foreign diplomats organized by the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of India.
