Diplomatic relations

The Republic of Paraguay recognized Montenegro on June 5, 2006. Diplomatic relations between Montenegro and the Republic of Paraguay were established on the same day.

At its session on December 29, 2009, the Government of Montenegro made a decision to open an honorary consulate in Asuncion, with jurisdiction over the entire territory of Paraguay. Mark Firmin, a prominent businessman and owner of the oil and gas company Montecristo, has been appointed honorary consul.

The Montenegrin community of Paraguay, headed by Andres Lakonić, operates in Asuncion.

Official visits

The President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović paid his first official visit to the Republic of Paraguay on 12 and 13 December 2018 and, on that occasion, met with the President of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benitez, the President of the Senate, Silvio Adalberto Ovelar Benitez and Miguel Jorge Cuevas Ruiz Diaz , President of the House of Representatives of Congress. On that occasion, the Paraguayan President decorated the Montenegrin President with the highest national decoration of that country - the Order of National Honor.
