Abazović, Adam: Montenegro and the Kingdom of Belgium are reliable NATO partners
Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović met with non-resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Montenegro Koenraad Adam and the Defence Attaché of the Kingdom of Belgium in Belgrade, Colonel Xavier Deneys.
Expressing satisfaction with the meeting, DPM Abazović stated that Montenegro and the Kingdom of Belgium cherish good relations, based on mutual trust and joint membership in NATO. Deputy Prime Minister Abazović said that Montenegro sees its future in the European community and that the support we receive from the Kingdom of Belgium is important on that path.
Abazović emphasised that the goal of this Government is an uncompromising fight against organized crime and corruption. Stressing that the goal of the Government is Montenegro's membership in the EU, Deputy Prime Minister Abazović said that since the election of the new Government certain results have been achieved in the fight against organized crime and corruption, but that no significant results have been achieved in Chapters 23 and 24, nor can be achieved as long as we have an inefficient and politically captured Prosecutor's Office. In that context, DPM Abazović informed Ambassador Adam about the draft amendments to the Law on the Prosecutor's Office and emphasised that it was in line with the recommendations of the Venice Commission.
Ambassador Adam encouraged Montenegro's path to the European Union, adding that the Kingdom of Belgium and Montenegro are reliable NATO partners.
The meeting was an opportunity for DPM Abazović to inform Ambassador Adam about the current situation after the first democratic change of government in the history of Montenegrin parliamentarism and Montenegro's huge public debt, but also to exchange views on the global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
