Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović meets with Director-General Koopman
Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović met today in Brussels with Gert Jan Koopman, Director-General of the Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighborhood (DG ENEST) at the European Commission.
Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović reaffirmed Montenegro's strong commitment to fulfilling its obligations in the EU accession process. He emphasized that maintaining reform momentum and ensuring institutional stability are of particular importance.
Director-General Koopman stated that both the European Commission and he personally remain unequivocally committed to providing continuous support to Montenegro in its efforts to become the next EU member by 2028.
The two officials also discussed the political situation in Montenegro, agreeing that maintaining a strong focus on the country’s primary foreign policy objective—EU membership—is of key importance. In this regard, special emphasis was placed on the efficient functioning of the legislative branch to ensure the adoption of laws crucial for further progress on the EU path.
The meeting also covered Montenegro’s plans for closing negotiation chapters during Poland’s presidency of the EU Council.
