DPM Ivanović meets with Managing Director for Europe at the European External Action Service Matti Maasikas
Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović met with Managing Director for Europe at the European External Action Service (EEAS) Matti Maasikas in Brussels.
Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović expressed gratitude for the support that the EEAS provides to Montenegro on its path to EU membership. He emphasized that Montenegro’s goal, as the frontrunner in the enlargement process, is to complete accession negotiations by the end of 2026 and become a full EU member by 2028.
Maasikas reaffirmed that Montenegro is recognized as a proven leader in European integration and that the EU is committed to seeing the country achieve its objective of joining the Union in 2028.
The two officials exchanged views on the current domestic and regional developments, as well as Montenegro’s upcoming plans for closing negotiation chapters.
Maasikas particularly praised Montenegro’s alignment with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy and the outstanding progress made over the past year, highlighting the necessity of broad political consensus to sustain this momentum.
