DPM Ivanović meets with MEP and Shadow Rapporteur for Montenegro Reinhold Lopatka

Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović met today in Brussels with Member of the European Parliament and Shadow Rapporteur for Montenegro Reinhold Lopatka.

Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović reaffirmed Montenegro’s ambition to become the next EU member state, expressing gratitude for MEP Lopatka’s support and emphasizing the importance of his extensive political experience and continued commitment to Montenegro’s EU accession.

MEP Lopatka highlighted that the European People’s Party (EPP), of which he is a member, has consistently provided strong support for the enlargement process and Montenegro’s European path and will continue to do so. He stressed the importance of securing the backing of all EU member states to help Montenegro fulfill its realistic ambitions, noting that this is already becoming a positive signal for the entire region.

The two officials also discussed the current political developments in Montenegro, with a focus on the crucial role of the Parliament in the EU integration process. Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović emphasized the Government’s full commitment to addressing all key societal and integration-related issues through inclusive dialogue and in good faith. Both parties agreed that institutional stability and the effective functioning of the legislative branch are essential for further progress in the final phase of EU accession.
