DPM Bečić meets with Ambassador of Hungary
Aleksa Bečić, Deputy Prime Minister for Security, Internal Policy, European, and Foreign Affairs, met with the Ambassador of Hungary to Montenegro, József Négyesi.
At the outset of the meeting, the two officials expressed their desire to strengthen friendly and economic ties between the two countries through collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
DPM Bečić emphasised Montenegro's commitment to the pro-European path, highlighting the country's readiness to close a series of negotiation chapters as soon as the new negotiation methodology allows. He underscored the significance of judicial reform for Montenegro's European journey, citing excellent results achieved in a remarkably short period. These achievements include the appointment of the seventh judge to the Constitutional Court, completion of the Judicial Council, selection of the Central Bank governor, prevention of Montenegro being placed on the Moneyval grey list, adoption of laws from the Berlin Process, and numerous arrests, prosecutions, and seizures in the determined fight against organised crime and corruption.
We expect continued positive news in the coming weeks and months, formal recognition of significant progress by our European partners, and the creation of conditions to close negotiation chapters, which is becoming a reality. Montenegro, as the 28th member of the European Union and a credible member of NATO, is a guarantee of our secure and prosperous future, stressed the Deputy Prime Minister.
Expressing confidence that restoring citizens' trust in institutions, coupled with the dominance of moderate civic politics over divisive policies, will enable Montenegro to continue its democratic progress, the Deputy Prime Minister concluded, "Our focus will be on cleansing institutions of all undue influences, providing additional motivation and protection to honorable, brave, and professional officials, strengthening institutions as the foundation of the state, and further empowering citizens economically and socially, making Montenegro stable and reliable in conducting state, European, and Euro-Atlantic policies."
