Deputy Prime Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Filip Ivanović took part in the ministerial roundtable titled "Taking forward the results of the Summit of the Future", held as part of the 11th World Science Forum.

The Forum focuses on the role of science in shaping policy decisions in the context of global challenges such as climate change, the energy crisis, poverty, public health issues, and other factors that define the future of our world.

In his remarks, Deputy Prime Minister Ivanović highlighted that Montenegro ranks 57th out of 166 countries in the latest Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) implementation report, with a fulfillment index of 73%. He emphasized the Government of Montenegro's commitment to achieving the goals of the 2030 Agenda, particularly in the areas of sustainable development, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, preserving biodiversity, and enhancing energy efficiency. He also stressed the importance of children's rights in national policies, as evidenced by the establishment of the Council for the Rights of the Child within the Office of the Prime Minister.

Montenegro is among the 33 UN member states that have clearly articulated their commitment to fulfilling the SDGs through a national strategy. We are developing modern data collection platforms that enable evidence-based policymaking, ensuring transparency and accountability in monitoring progress, Ivanović said.

He also underscored the significance of the Pact for the Future, which seeks to redefine the international financial architecture to facilitate developing countries' access to resources for achieving the SDGs.

Speaking on the importance of scientific and research communities, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed their collaboration with political leaders.

When science and diplomacy work hand in hand, problems are solved, and conflicts cease, Ivanović stated, emphasizing that the synergy between scientific knowledge and political decision-making is crucial for addressing the world's greatest challenges.

In conclusion, Ivanović highlighted that the World Science Forum is an exceptional opportunity to foster international cooperation, share knowledge and experiences, and develop effective policies to address current and future challenges. He expressed confidence that the outcomes of this Forum, through the integration of scientific insights into policymaking, will contribute to building a more stable, sustainable, and just world.

On the sidelines of the Forum, the Deputy Prime Minister held discussions with János Áder, former President of Hungary; Tamás Freund, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences; and Bonginkosi Nzimande, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation of South Africa.
