Ibrahimović attends meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović participated in the meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs held in Brussels on 3 and 4 December.
The discussions focused on the complex geopolitical situation and current challenges, with particular attention to Russia's aggression against Ukraine and the outcomes since the Washington Summit. Ministers also discussed the importance of the Southern Neighbourhood and cooperation with partners in the Middle East, as well as the strategic significance of the Western Balkans for Euro-Atlantic security.
In this context, Ibrahimović emphasized that “it was confirmed at the meeting that NATO will continue to support strengthening stability and security in the Western Balkans, and the region remains high on NATO's agenda.”
During the two-day meeting, a set of measures to counter hostile and cyber activities was adopted, including better protection of critical infrastructure and enhanced cyber defence. It was also highlighted that the Alliance would continue to closely cooperate with the European Union in these areas.
NATO ministers met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, within the framework of the NATO-Ukraine Council. Strong support for Ukraine was reaffirmed through existing NATO mechanisms and bilateral arrangements.
Allies also met with King Abdullah II of Jordan to discuss the situation in the Middle East and the importance of closer NATO cooperation with partners in that region.
Over the previous two days in Brussels, allies agreed that the complex geopolitical situation and current challenges necessitate demonstrating unity and a strong response from the Alliance, focusing on developing capacity readiness and resilience against the obstacles we face daily. In this regard, Minister Ibrahimović stressed that “Montenegro continues to meet strategically important foreign policy goals, primarily through the consistent strengthening of its position within the Alliance and the implementation of NATO policies.”
On the sidelines of the ministerial meeting, Ibrahimović held bilateral meetings with Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna and the UK Minister of State for Europe in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Stephen Doughty. The discussions particularly focused on the importance of strengthening stability and security in the Western Balkans, as well as further enhancing bilateral cooperation and Montenegro's progress in terms of foreign policy priorities.
