Ibrahimović meets with OSCE Chair-in-Office Ian Borg
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović met today in Podgorica with OSCE Chair-in-Office Ian Borg, who is paying an official visit to Montenegro.
This visit carries special significance, sending a strong message of support and friendship. Montenegro regards the OSCE as a crucial partner in promoting peace and security, particularly as the region faces increasingly complex challenges. Our country is unwavering in its support for the OSCE’s mission, and we believe in the strength of this organization to maintain and renew its influence, even under the most challenging circumstances, said Ibrahimović.
Ibrahimović emphasised the importance of multilateralism in light of current geopolitical challenges, noting that it is now more vital than ever.
By assuming the Chair, Malta has demonstrated genuine leadership, and its commitment to preserving and revitalizing the OSCE is of great importance for Montenegro and the entire region, Ibrahimović added.
Reflecting on Montenegro’s achievements along the path to EU membership, Ibrahimović underscored the crucial role of the OSCE Mission in Montenegro in supporting reforms across key sectors.
Our commitment to EU membership is not only a strategic priority but also a vision for the future that Montenegro aspires to achieve. We are grateful for the support of our international partners in realizing this vision, he added.
Chair-in-Office Borg highlighted the longstanding, positive collaboration between Montenegro and the OSCE, commending Montenegro’s progress toward European integration. He affirmed that the OSCE remains a reliable partner in implementing key reforms to strengthen democratic institutions and the rule of law, offering expert assistance in the final stages of EU accession, particularly in electoral legislation reform.
Montenegro is rapidly advancing towards its strategic development goals, including strengthening democratic institutions and enhancing media freedom. Through our Mission in Podgorica, we will continue to provide full support to Montenegro on this journey, said Borg.
During the meeting, both sides emphasised that European integration and good-neighbourly relations form the foundation of stability and progress in the region, especially given the growing threats posed by hybrid challenges and malign influences. They underscored the importance of cooperation and mutual commitment to promoting peace, security, and democracy, both regionally and globally.
