Ibrahimović hosts New Year’s reception for diplomatic corps
Despite the challenges, the past year has been marked by significant achievements on Montenegro’s European path, of which we are particularly proud, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović during the traditional New Year’s reception for the diplomatic corps, held today at Villa Gorica.
Minister Ibrahimović highlighted Montenegro’s substantial progress in areas covered by Chapters 23 and 24 of the EU accession process.
Most importantly, the 44th Government has demonstrated clear accountability to its citizens by strengthening the rule of law, which is indispensable for economic progress and a prosperous state. Montenegro’s European path enjoys the unequivocal support of its citizens and serves as a unifying factor in our society, he emphasized.
Ibrahimović underscored Montenegro’s active role in multilateral forums over the past year, distinguishing itself through its commitment to upholding international humanitarian law, resolving conflicts through diplomacy, and ensuring humanitarian aid for civilians. As a member of the UN Human Rights Council for the second time, Montenegro has significantly contributed to strengthening mechanisms for human rights protection, combating discrimination, promoting gender equality, and safeguarding vulnerable groups, Ibrahimović stated. More than ever, the role of the UN is crucial in protecting peace and upholding an international order based on the rule of law, he added.
Turning to regional cooperation, Ibrahimović reaffirmed Montenegro’s commitment to good neighbourly relations. Montenegro places special emphasis on fostering regional cooperation and developing good neighbourly relations, which is not only a key foreign policy priority but also an essential precondition for peace and stability in the region. It is the best response to security threats, he said. Ibrahimović reiterated that the European perspective of the Western Balkans has no alternative, offering a path to progress and addressing shared challenges. As a leader in the European integration process, Montenegro’s success will inspire and encourage other candidate countries to advance on their European paths, he added.
Ibrahimović expressed gratitude to members of the diplomatic corps for their contributions to Montenegro’s international affirmation. Your ongoing support and positive assessments from the international community motivate us to remain steadfast on our European journey and to work together towards building a more prosperous Montenegro. We are committed to contributing to peace and stability in the region, Europe, and the world, he concluded.
Speaking on behalf of the diplomatic corps, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Montenegro, Rabii Alhantouli, also addressed the gathering.
