Ibrahimović, Guterres: Montenegro-UN partnership contributes to overall social development
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the 58th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Secretary-General Guterres inquired about current regional developments, emphasizing that the European integration process plays a crucial role in strengthening stability and fostering further prosperity in the Western Balkans.
He also reflected on the global challenges the world is facing, underscoring the importance of cooperation in promoting peace and human rights. Additionally, he acknowledged Montenegro as an active and reliable UN member, assuring full support for the country’s ongoing development efforts.
Minister Ibrahimović expressed gratitude for the longstanding partnership between Montenegro and the UN system, which has significantly contributed to the democratization and overall progress of the country. He briefed the Secretary-General on key achievements in Montenegro’s foreign policy priorities, highlighting that cooperation with the UN aligns with and complements the country’s EU reform agenda.
Discussing the importance of regional cooperation and good neighbourly relations in the European integration process, Minister Ibrahimović reiterated Montenegro’s commitment to the principles of the UN Charter. He emphasized that Montenegro’s multiethnic, multiconfessional, and multicultural character is a fundamental value and cornerstone of its society.
The two officials also exchanged views on current geopolitical challenges, agreeing that the UN plays a pivotal role in preserving a rules-based international order.
