Ibrahimović, Doughty: Montenegro and the United Kingdom have built a strong partnership
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović met today with the UK Minister for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty and the UK Prime Minister's Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Lord Stuart Peach.
During the meeting, it was noted that relations between Montenegro and the United Kingdom are strong, based on firm friendship and NATO alliance.
Minister Ibrahimović emphasized that the United Kingdom is one of Montenegro’s key partners, with whom the country has built a strong alliance and dynamic bilateral cooperation.
He particularly highlighted the UK’s contribution to implementing democratic and structural reforms in Montenegro, underscoring the significant potential for further enhancing cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, energy, and cybersecurity.
Minister Ibrahimović also reaffirmed Montenegro’s progress on its European path, stressing that EU accession remains the country’s absolute priority. He further emphasized Montenegro’s commitment to strengthening regional stability and security.
A stable Western Balkans is our shared interest, and the United Kingdom’s support in strengthening security, democratic capacities, and the rule of law greatly assists us in achieving this goal, Ibrahimović stated.
UK Minister for Europe Doughty expressed his appreciation for the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ibrahimović, noting that it provided an excellent opportunity to learn more about Montenegro’s efforts to play a stronger role on the international stage and within Europe.
We discussed deepening our bilateral cooperation to foster joint development, security, and energy collaboration. Additionally, we addressed our roles in regional cooperation, institutional resilience-building, hybrid threats, and tackling shared challenges, Doughty stated.
He further emphasized that Montenegro’s future as a democratic and economically resilient country depends on continued reform efforts, assuring that the United Kingdom, as a key partner and friend, stands ready to support these efforts.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on current regional and global developments, reaffirming their mutual commitment to strengthening cooperation and further deepening overall bilateral relations.
