Krivokapić, Edtstadler: Accelerated accession to the EU is a salvation for the Western Balkans

Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić met with Minister for the EU and Constitution of Austria Karoline Edtstadler on the sidelines of the Delphi Economic Forum.

The two officials discussed the crisis in Ukraine and potential impact on Montenegro, as well as country's accession to the EU.

Prime Minister Krivokapić pointed out that the European region must be stable. He explained that the potential minority government cannot be stable, because it consists of parties that show ideological differences, and rearrangement within the Parliament alone is not enough for reforms, especially not with the support of those who have been suffocating the system for decades.

It is necessary, as he states, that new young forces get involved in politics, return ethics to politics and show that politics is not trade.

The formation of that government would trigger unrest and instability, it would be very difficult to control the situation, because there are always those who use chaos.

Austrian Minister Edtstadler said that it was time for the European Union to show understanding for the status of the candidate countries.

She said that the crisis in Ukraine shows that these countries can be destabilized, which must not be allowed. She asked the Prime Minister to convince the citizens of Montenegro to continue to believe in the European Union, adding that the accession process must be accelerated in order not to lose the Western Balkans forever.

According to Krivokapić, Montenegro has not yet embarked on the path of Euroscepticism, but, as he concluded, the current political situation and the crisis of democracy have shaken the opinion of some citizens about the EU.
