Marović, Schmid: Economic cooperation with Switzerland is important for Montenegro
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of European Affairs Jovana Marović met with non-resident Ambassador of Switzerland to Montenegro Urs Schmid. Further strengthening of bilateral relations between Montenegro and Switzerland is a priority of the two countries, especially in the field of economic cooperation, considering that Switzerland ranks second in foreign direct investment in Montenegro, it was noted at the meeting.
Montenegro is grateful to Switzerland for significant support during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Further improvement of economic cooperation is very important for our country, said Marović.
Ambassador Schmid thanked Montenegro for its support of Switzerland's candidacy in the United Nations Security Council and added that he was making efforts to initiate political consultations with Montenegro.
Switzerland has a strong economy and we are very pleased with the presence of Swiss companies in Montenegro, said Schmid.
Marović informed Schmid that the reforms, especially the reform of the judiciary, are very challenging and require a qualified majority in Parliament, and that this Government has focused all its efforts on their implementation.
The appointment of the Supreme State Prosecutor, members of the Judicial Council and other reforms in the judiciary are the first precondition for accelerating integration and one of the biggest challenges of the 43rd Government in the integration process, Marović said.
She reminded that Montenegro has made significant progress in the European integration process, which has been going on for ten years. There are still challenges in the area of the rule of law, especially in the area of the fight against corruption and organised crime, which we are just beginning to face, and the latest arrests represent some progress in that area, Marović concluded.
