Meeting in Davos: Montenegro as an example of successful World Bank projects
Montenegro serves as an example of the success of certain World Bank instruments, emphasized the World Bank's Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde, during her meeting with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
During the discussion, it was noted that Montenegro has undertaken significant economic reforms, restoring trust in financial institutions and positively impacting citizens' living standards. The increase in both minimum and average wages was achieved through tax reforms.
One of the World Bank’s recommendations from 2019 was to reduce labour taxes, which we developed and implemented. The solution was reached through intensive social dialogue that included all stakeholders, enabling the proper implementation of the Europe Now programmes, said Prime Minister Spajić.
He expressed gratitude to Director Bjerde for the World Bank's expert and financial support on various projects. He also highlighted the ongoing commitment to the implementation of the adopted Partnership Framework, which aligns with Montenegro’s efforts for inclusive growth, a green economy, strong governance, and progress toward EU integration.
It was noted that the tendering process for Montenegro’s airports, supported by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a part of the World Bank, will finally be finalized.
Another topic of discussion was the optimization of public administration and finding appropriate solutions to reward employees who perform well, meet expectations, and deliver results.
