Minister Injac participates in meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence
Minister of Defence Olivera Injac is participating in a two-day meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence on 21 and 22 October at the NATO headquarters in Brussels. The meeting, chaired by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, is an opportunity to summarise the guidelines on key NATO tasks after the Summit in June this year.
NATO Defence Ministers discussed how to further strengthen the Alliance’s deterrence and defence, continuing NATO’s adaption to a more complex and competitive world. Ministers endorsed a new overarching plan to defend the Alliance in crisis and conflict. This will make sure NATO continues to have the right forces and capabilities, at the right place and at the right time, to ensure protection from any threat. Ministers also exchanged views on the lessons to be learned from NATO’s engagement in Afghanistan and how to preserve the gains made in the fight against terrorism.
Minister Injac emphasised the importance of the policy of deterrence and defence and said that Montenegro, as a responsible and reliable ally, will continue to contribute to the allied efforts to strengthen collective defence. Injac reminded that members of the Armed Forces of Montenegro were sent to NATO's Enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battlegroup in Latvia. The Minister noted that Montenegro will continue to support Allied efforts in the fight against terrorism.
The meeting of NATO Defence Ministers will continue tomorrow.
