Ministers Mitrović, Vujović: Environmental problems know no borders, cooperation will lead to cleaner Lim

Minister of Ecology, Spatial Planning and Urbanism of Montenegro Ratko Mitrović and Minister of Environmental Protection of Serbia Irena Vujović agreed today to sign a new Memorandum of Cooperation, which will further define joint activities in the field of environmental protection, including solving the problem of floating waste on the Lim River.

The problem of one state is also the problem of the neighbouring state. Therefore, we must solve burning environmental problems together, because a healthy environment is extremely important for the future of all our citizens, said Mitrović.

The officials agreed future steps in tackling the problem of floating waste on the Lim River.

Minister Vujović said that the Ministry she heads announced competitions for setting up barriers on the Lim River, and "we have formed a joint body of competent ministries and a working group that will map all illegal landfills in the river basin in order to start removing them. There is a will to strengthen bilateral cooperation, and today we agreed on concrete steps."

The meeting also discussed the exchange of experience and good practices in the area of environmental inspections, but also on the construction of recycling centres and wastewater treatment plants.

We have a big problem with solid waste and we came to see how Serbia solves that problem. Serbia will build eight recycling centres, and those experiences will be useful to us, said Mitrović.

Furthermore, the meeting discusses topics such as educating citizens in order to raise awareness of the importance of preserving a healthy environment.

Minister Mitrović and his associates are paying their first official visit to the Republic of Serbia. Minister Mitrović will meet tomorrow with Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirović.
