Montenegro is sincerely committed to the development of good neighbourly relations with Serbia based on European goals, mutual interests, economic, geographical and political orientation towards each other, said Prime Minister Dritan Abazović during a meeting with Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dačić.

He said that it was especially important for both countries to be fully committed to creating an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect, bearing in mind the common history, traditional closeness of the two nations, as well as the fact that they share European goals and face many reform challenges.

Speaker of the National Assembly Ivica Dačić congratulated Dritan Abazović on his election as Prime Minister of Montenegro, wishing him success in his work. Dačić pointed out that the fact that Serbia is among the first countries that the Prime Minister of Montenegro has visited since taking office testifies to the commitment to the improvement of bilateral relations. Speaker of the National Assembly Ivica Dačić said that Serbia attaches special importance to the further development of overall bilateral relations with Montenegro, in the spirit of friendship and mutual respect, bearing in mind the close ties between the two nations. Dačić expressed hope that the improvement of bilateral relations will be also achieved through the parliamentary dimension, since there is ample room to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and cooperation in international parliamentary organisations, as well as through visits by parliamentary speakers and closer contacts between parliamentary friendship groups.
