PM Spajić hosts delegation from the Turkish Grand National Assembly
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić met with a delegation from the Turkish Parliament, led by Fuat Oktay, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.
During the meeting, both sides highlighted the strong bilateral relations between Montenegro and Türkiye. The recent decision to extradite Turkish national Binali Camgöz was acknowledged as a step that has strengthened mutual trust and helped resolve certain outstanding issues.
The conversation underscored significant opportunities for advancing economic ties between the two countries.
Türkiye is an essential partner for Montenegro, and I believe our planned infrastructure investments over the next six years offer substantial potential for increased Turkish business presence. I genuinely think we have not yet reached the full potential of our economic cooperation, stated Prime Minister Spajić.
Mr. Oktay expressed that numerous Turkish companies are keenly interested in road infrastructure projects and in contributing to the reconstruction of the Bar–Belgrade railway. He also highlighted potential collaboration in agriculture, tourism, and defence sectors.
We are pleased to rank as the third-largest source of foreign direct investment in Montenegro, but we believe there is room for more. This is a promising area for additional investments, and we need to analyze and enhance our position further, Oktay emphasised.
The contribution of TurkCham, the Turkish Chamber of Commerce in Montenegro, was also noted in boosting trade exchange, which has now reached an annual level of 210 million euros. TurkCham has played a vital role in improving cooperation across sectors, particularly in infrastructure, maritime industries, energy, and mining.
The meeting emphasised Montenegro’s exemplary role in regional stability and relations within the Western Balkans, with Oktay describing the country as “an island of peace and stability.”
The parties concluded that several bilateral agreements, currently under negotiation, would further enhance relations and could be signed during Prime Minister Spajić’s official visit to Türkiye, at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
