The European Parliament will always stand by Montenegro to support its democratic advances made in the recent period, stated President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola during her meeting with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić in Brussels.

EP President Metsola congratulated Montenegro on its significant reform achievements, emphasising that this success belongs to both the Government and the Parliament.

It was highlighted that the enlargement process is the strongest geopolitical tool the European Union has, and Metsola stressed that the European Parliament will be a strong supporter of Montenegro every step of the way.

Special attention was given to the need to strengthen ties between the European Parliament and the parliaments of candidate countries, as this is the way to reinforce democracy and promote parliamentary diplomacy in the EU accession process.

In this context, the idea of establishing a regional EP office in the Western Balkans was also discussed.

The President of the European Parliament announced her visit to Montenegro and the region.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević, Head of the Mission of Montenegro to the European Union Petar Marković, and Chief of the Office of the Prime Minister Branko Krvavac.
