President of the UN General Assembly hosts Abazović and Radulović in New York

Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović and Minister of Foreign Affairs Đorđe Radulović met today with President of the United Nations General Assembly Abdulla Shahid in New York.

Montenegro will continue to contribute to the maintenance of international peace. Together, we are strengthening the cosmopolitan spirit of the global community, said DPM Abazović.

Deputy Prime Minister Abazović pointed out that the core values of the UN have historically been incorporated into Montenegrin society, which today cherishes the values of a multicultural, multiethnic and multi-confessional community.

The Government of Montenegro is committed to the core values of the UN and respect for the Charter and international obligations, achieving the goals defined in Agenda 2030, as the main guidelines for international action and cooperation of Montenegro with the UN system, said Foreign Minister Đorđe Radulović.

Radulović pointed out that Montenegro continues to work with great intensity on improving and supporting the integration of the human rights dimension into all aspects of the UN's work.

Small countries can do a lot to improve the situation around the world. Our commitment is to give people hope that we can build a better tomorrow in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and environmental protection. No one is safe until everyone is safe. We need to work together and share common and successful stories, said UN General Assembly President Abdulla Shahid.

The officials agreed that climate change is one of the biggest challenges of our time and that Montenegro should continue to contribute to reducing global emissions.

After a working visit to Washington, Abazović and Radulović are staying in New York, where, in addition to high-level meetings at the United Nations headquarters, they will meet with the Montenegrin diaspora in the United States.
