Prime Minister Krivokapić - PMQs: We must work in the spirit of the rule of law, good cooperation with the EC, because that is our path

"According to the Constitution, this Government has the right to harmonize the law with the Commission, and the precondition for that harmonization is of course the Opinion of the Venice Commission," said Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić during the Prime Minister's Question, answering the question of Slaven Radunović from the MP Club of the New Serbian Democracy, the Democratic People's Party, the United Montenegro and the Workers' Party.

Prime Minister Krivokapić said that there are the most competent people in the Venice Commission who can make independent and impartial decisions, regardless of the allusion to the possibility of lobbying by former ministers Pažin and Darmanović.

"I deeply believe that lobbying could not give such a result. Venice Commission did not, as some - and especially the media - spin, give either a negative or a positive opinion. Its opinion contains appropriate recommendations that are very easy to amend and appropriate recommendations that require certain procedures. You cannot say that their position on the law on the prosecutorial council is not like that. It enables a very simple, balanced structure of the prosecutorial council, and that is the first opportunity for us to be able to remove the one who is above Katnić. Venice Commission finds it difficult when a man is the target of a law, regardless of the fact that they have an absolute understanding of this process for the first time. It’s something no one likes to happen, no matter what that person is like. In conversations with the diplomatic corps, I pointed to the abuses that every citizen, who does not even have to be a lawyer, can prove that something went wrong. They have accepted it, they know it and they have a different view. Yes, Katnić is a symbol of the defence of the previous system, but please let us all return to our basic task. I know that time is running out, but we must work in the spirit of the rule of law, good cooperation with the European Commision, because that is our path, the path of our Government's determination to be the next EU member state. We can do that during the mandate of this Government," said the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Krivokapić said that the injustice was a scar that could not be easily treated and which, although present in all parts of the system, must be corrected, and that it requires patience.
