Prime Minister meets with Ambassador of Serbia: Montenegro’s EU path an inspiration for the region; EXPO 2027 in Belgrade a unique opportunity for Montenegro
The significant progress Montenegro has made on its path to the European Union serves as an inspiration for other countries in the region, according to discussions between Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and Ambassador of Serbia to Podgorica Nebojša Rodić.
We remain steadfastly focused on our ambitious European agenda, aiming to close all negotiation chapters by the end of 2026. Progress by any individual country toward EU membership represents a collective step forward for the entire region, which shares a common goal, Prime Minister Spajić emphasized.
Ambassador Rodić praised the positive developments in Montenegro.
I welcome everything happening on Montenegro’s European path, as it provides encouragement to others in the region. Montenegro has made the most progress and will soon close certain chapters with the EU. We expect progress on Serbia’s negotiation chapters to be made in January, he added.
The Ambassador highlighted Serbia’s preparations for the Specialized Expo 2027, inviting Montenegro to participate.
We anticipate that four million tourists will visit EXPO 2027 between 15 May and 15 August 2027. Montenegro, like the rest of the region, should benefit from this event. Participation in EXPO 2025 begins on 16 December, and I hope Montenegro will see the value in joining. I encourage the Government to make this decision, Rodić stated.
Prime Minister Spajić congratulated Serbia on the ambitious project, noting that EXPO 2027 will position Belgrade as a global innovation hub. He assured that Montenegro would seize the opportunity to showcase itself and leverage the benefits offered by this unique global event.
The two officials emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between Montenegro and Serbia, particularly in the areas of economy, tourism, and transportation.
