Prime Minister meets with Finnish Foreign Minister: Intergovernmental Conference to provide strong impetus to negotiation process
Montenegro's support for Finland's NATO membership is a testament to the excellent relations between Montenegro and Finland, presenting an opportunity to strengthen overall cooperation further enhanced by Montenegro's membership in the European Union. This was the conclusion of the meeting between Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland Elina Valtonen on the sidelines of the 54th World Economic Forum in Davos.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Spajić and Minister Valtonen also talked about the dynamics of fulfilling criteria in Chapters 23 and 24, stating that the upcoming Intergovernmental Conference between Montenegro and the European Union will provide a robust impetus to invigorate the negotiation process.
They emphasised that the European Union's Growth Plan serves as a significant stimulus to Montenegro's further development, acting as a robust mechanism to support the attainment of European standards in various areas.
The announcement of closing chapters was jointly considered a result of the dedicated efforts of the Government and Parliament, signaling to the European Union that there is a necessary level of political stability ensuring the functionality of institutions and continuity in the integration process.
The two officials exchanged views on the situation in Europe and underscored the importance of continued support for Ukraine. In this context, the Finnish minister particularly welcomed Montenegro's full alignment with the European Union's Common Foreign and Security Policy.
The meeting concluded that good political relations form a solid foundation for enhancing economic cooperation, especially in the fields of energy and mining. In addition, to enhance tourist exchange, they discussed the possibility of establishing year-round direct flights.
