Spajić meets O’Brien in Davos: Political stability is crucial for further development
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić is currently in Davos, where, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, he held a meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien. Mr. O’Brien commended the accomplishments of the 44th Government and conveyed strong support from the United States for Montenegro's efforts in the EU integration process.
Prime Minister Spajić briefed Mr. O’Brien on the Government's plans for the further development of Montenegro, with a particular focus on the fields of energy and infrastructure. He emphasised that the Government is committed to creating conditions for launching crucial projects in these areas in a short period, expecting positive effects on economic strengthening and the overall well-being of citizens.
We entered politics to bring about positive change. We aspire for Montenegro's development and hope to witness the outcomes of our efforts soon. In this regard, we seek the support of our international partners, particularly the United States, stated the Prime Minister.
US Assistant Secretary of State O’Brien highlighted that the impressive achievements of the Government in terms of internal stability are influencing a noticeable advancement of European integration. The organisation of the Population Census serves as an exceptional example of political maturity and the existence of democratic capacities - it is a model for how to approach numerous important issues, conveyed O’Brien. He emphasised that political stability is a crucial prerequisite for further development, a recognition already acknowledged by the US administration and the business sector, which is increasingly showing interest in investing in Montenegro.
He underscored that Montenegro's NATO membership is an advantage and a kind of security guarantee, crucial for both citizens and investors.
The two officials exchanged views on regional opportunities, agreeing that Montenegro, as a NATO member and a frontrunner for EU membership, remains a significant stabilising factor. They emphasised that infrastructural connectivity is strategically important for the developmental perspective of the Western Balkans.
At the meeting, it was assessed that the Prime Minister's visit to Washington will be a good opportunity to enhance high-level contacts, particularly with a focus on concretising collaboration on mutually beneficial projects.
