United States provides $2.7 Million for COVID-19 assistance in Montenegro
US Ambassador Judy Rising Reinke joined Minister of Health Jelena Borovinić Bojović and World Health Representative for Montenegro Mina Brajović at an event to announce that the United States – through the United States Agency for International Development – is providing $2.7 million in urgent COVID-19 assistance to Montenegro. These American Rescue Plan funds will enable the World Health Organization to partner with the Ministry of Health to increase testing capacity, improve the availability of life-saving oxygen treatment for patients suffering from COVID, strengthen infection prevention and control in health facilities, and boost vaccination rates, especially in rural areas.
Minister Borovinić Bojović thanked the US Embassy in Podgorica for its continuous and generous support in all areas, particularly in the context of health.
Thanks to this extremely important donation, Montenegro will strive to further highlight the importance and speed up the process of immunization against coronavirus, which is the backbone of the fight against COVID-19. To date, Montenegro has provided over one million and two hundred thousand doses of vaccines, and nearly 60 percent of adult citizens received the first dose, the Minister said.
