Varhelyi: We are ready to build an LNG terminal in Montenegro
During the Berlin Process Foreign Ministers' Meeting, which included Prime Minister Dritan Abazović as the Coordinator of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi made a groundbreaking announcement. He revealed the EU's readiness to join forces with Montenegro in constructing a state-of-the-art LNG terminal on Montenegrin soil.
He stressed the paramount importance of a gas terminal in Bar, citing the ongoing energy crisis spurred by Russia's aggression against Ukraine. With its establishment, Montenegro is set to emerge as a central hub for liquefied natural gas in the region, benefitting neighboring countries.
Prime Minister Abazović hailed this development as a historic milestone for Montenegro. He underscored that beyond successfully convincing European partners of the project's significance, this endeavor signals Montenegro's commitment to diversify its economy and elevate its regional standing.
Additionally, Prime Minister Abazović recalled the prior memorandum signed with American investors regarding the LNG terminal in Bar and underscored the enthusiasm and willingness of EU partners to contribute funding from European sources.
I believe this is truly a significant development for Montenegro, emphasized Prime Minister Abazović.
