WARNING - Phishing campaigns targeting public transport users

Published on: Aug 22, 2024 12:06 PM

CIRT is warning citizens about an ongoing phishing campaign targeting public transport users in order to steal financial information and personal data. A banner has been spotted on social networks featuring a photo of a ticket along with the text "Purchase a new semi-annual ticket with a six-month validity period, without any restrictions on all modes of transport. Available for only €2.35."

Be wary of campaigns that appear legitimate but are actually designed to deceive you into providing personal information or financial resources. These scammers imitate real institutions to make their offers seem genuine. It is important to exercise caution and stay vigilant.

To protect yourself from scams, please follow these guidelines:

  • If you see this banner on social networks, do not open the following links and do not disclose any information.
  • Avoid making payments on suspicious websites.
  • Do not click on links from suspicious messages on social networks.
  • Read the content of messages carefully, as phishing messages usually contain grammatical errors.

Please note that a reputable institution will not request users to disclose confidential information or submit documents via SMS, email, or social networks.

If your data is misused, you can report the incident via e-mail: kontakt@cirt.me or by filling out a form on the CIRT website: https://www.gov.me/cirt/prijavi-incident
