Promotion of health and well-being, prevention of accidents and diseases, the safety of children in the hospital and in the family, as well as in the wider community, are the main areas concerning the health of children, which are significantly represented in Montenegro's health policy, said Minister of Health Jelena Borovinić Bojović at the first meeting of the Working Group on Early Childhood Development of the Council for the Rights of the Child of Montenegro, which was formed as part of the project "EU and UNICEF for early childhood development in Montenegro".

The child's health, she said, is based on a holistic approach to the child, with the aim of developing, promoting and improving their health, from conception to adolescent age, monitoring growth and development, and improving all professions dealing with the health of children, whether physical, mental, emotional or intellectual, in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Montenegro has ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which is the international umbrella document for comprehensive protection of the rights of the child, while the Constitution guarantees the primacy of ratified international treaties over national legislation.

The Ministry of Health, implementing the policies of the Government of Montenegro, defined the child's health as one of the priorities. We will strive to further regulate and improve this very important segment of health care through strategic documents. Of course, we can't do this alone, but through multi-sectoral cooperation and joint action we can contribute to our children having a happy, healthy and carefree upbringing. The role of parents and families is also equally important for the proper development of children. That's why it's very important that parents, especially in these challenging times, understand how important it is to accept the recommendations and to protect their children and themselves by getting vaccinated.

Head of the UNICEF Office in Montenegro Juan Santander and Head of Cooperation Sector at the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro Hermann Spitz also attended the meeting.
