Abazović in Sarajevo: Crime and corruption are always behind nationalism, we live for the vision of the European region
The adopted Resolution on Srebrenica is a matter of civilization for me. When such issues do not provoke controversy, we will know that the society has finally made a step forward, said Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović at the Summit on Democracy in Southeast Europe, which is being held today in Sarajevo, organised by the International Republican Institute.
Speaking on 'The Far Right in Boasnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro: Historical Revisionism and Genocide Denial', DPM Abazović emphasised that Montenegro had its say in the case of the Srebrenica genocide, through the adoption of the Declaration and Resolution in 2009 and 2021 respectively, and cited the dismissal of the minister as a positive example, stating that no high-ranking officials in the region, including BiH, have ever been dismissed for denying the Srebrenica genocide. He said that the adoption of the Resolution was accompanied by a lot of propaganda and that it was not directed against Serbs, which was clearly emphasised in one article.
Speaking about the current political situation in the region, Deputy Prime Minister Abazović stressed that the Balkans have not yet stepped out of the 1990s and the policy of nationalism, which marked that period. In that sense, Abazović stated that if we want to be part of the European Union, we must make a stride, distance ourselves from the topics that cause divisions and dedicate ourselves to economic recovery and the fight against corruption, as the main problems in this region.
Instead to the past, let's dedicate ourselves to building a better future, Abazović concluded.
