Abazović: Investment in Northern Infrastructure Continues
Prime Minister Dritan Abazović, Director of the Transport Administration Radomir Vuksanović, President of the Municipality of Mojkovac Vesko Delić, President of the Municipality of Berane Vuko Obradović, State Secretary in the Ministry of Capital Investment, Admir Šahmanović, and President of the Municipal Assembly of Bijelo Polje Ernad Suljević, visited the Mojkovac - Berane highway section from Lepenac to Berane, marking the beginning of its reconstruction and modernization with a total value of 35 million euros.
This is truly a significant project for Montenegro, as it is not often that we undertake the reconstruction of 40 kilometers of a single road at once. We are committed to continuing investments in infrastructure in the northern region, which is of strategic importance for the whole country. The creation of new, safe road networks will foster business development and enhance the mobility of citizens, said Prime Minister Abazović, emphasizing the Government's focus on road infrastructure development.
Director of the Transport Administration Radomir Vuksanović stated that the project includes the reconstruction of 40 kilometers of the Mojkovac - Berane highway, covering the section Lepanac –Ribarevina – Poda – Berane.
The total cost of the project, financed by the European Investment Bank, amounts to 35 million euros, with the consortium Strabag - Bemax as the appointed contractor. The expected deadline for the completion of works is two years. The significance of this highway for the connected municipalities cannot be overstated. It serves as a vital lifeline for the entire northern region, said Vuksanović.
President of the Municipality of Berane Vuko Obradović stressed the importance of this highway, expressing confidence that the modernized road will facilitate safe transportation and contribute to the development of the entire northern region of Montenegro.
President of the Municipality of Mojkovac Vesko Delić highlighted the special significance of the highway for Mojkovac residents due to its daily use and its connection to neighboring Bijelo Polje. Delić also pointed out that, in the future, the highway will serve as a link between Mojkovac and the broader highway network once it extends through Berane.
State Secretary in the Ministry of Capital Investments Admir Šahmanović stated that this project is part of a broader initiative to improve road infrastructure in the northern region. He expressed optimism that future projects would include the construction of the second section of the motorway to Andrijevica, the Plav - Dečani road, and the development of the airport park in Berane.
President of the Municipal Assembly of Bijelo Polje Ernad Suljević emphasized that the longest section of the highway under reconstruction passes through their municipality. He urged special attention to be given to the Zaton area during construction, given its proximity to the local elementary school, to ensure the safety of children.
This project reflects the Government's dedication to developing critical infrastructure and fostering regional growth and connectivity.
